Information

The book by Bergverlag Rölke describes the mills and their history on the left bank of the river Gelobtbach from the Czech border to the mills on the Seidewitz and Gottleuba. The authors' aim is to present the history of the individual mills from the first documentary mention to the cessation of the mill operation after evaluating all surviving archive sources.
Introductory chapters deal with life in the mill and the social position of the miller and his family. In the Pirnschen Eisen district, the hammer mills at Biela, Bahra and Gottleuba played an outstanding role in the early industrial development in Saxony. The invention of wood pulp by Friedrich Gottlob Keller in cribs revolutionized the paper industry.
Extensive historical and contemporary pictorial documents enrich the monograph. Cover picture: "The Rölligmühle on the Krippenbach". Watercolored drawing by Ludwig Friedrich from 1895.
