he book is a very diligent work, in which the author has summarised the estate of the local history researcher Günter Rapp and in addition the findings of other local history researchers on the mills in Upper Lusatia. It is a detailed elaboration on the history of this important branch of production in the past centuries. There were over 500 mills, from grain mills to oil mills and sawmills, in Upper Lusatia.
Particularly noteworthy is the collection of old illustrations of the decayed mills which no longer exist. The technical introduction is also very instructive, especially for the younger generation, in order to put themselves in the shoes of the millers, but this heavily illustrated volume can also be used as a hiking guide to explore Upper Lusatia on romantic mill paths. Lovingly restored windmills, water mills or the legendary Krabat Mill should not only be a hiking destination on German Mills Day at Whitsun. It is worthwhile to walk in the footsteps of the warlock Pumphut and of Krabat and listen to the old legends.
