The illustrated book is a comprehensive and up-to-date book on the Wildlife of Saxon Switzerland and contains about 70 species of mammals, over 250 species of birds, 22 amphibians and reptiles and 51 species of fish. The focus is on characteristic or faunistically valuable species such as the seven- and garden dormouse, otter, lynx, chamois, black stork, eagle owl, kestrel and peregrine falcon, Pygmy flycatcher and fire salamander.  Observations on extinct animal species such as wolf, bear and capercaillie are not missing.
